The future strategic arms reduction treaty must be ratified simultaneously in Russia and the United States. Another situation is unacceptable, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said during the meeting with parliament leaders on Saturday.
The situation of the Soviet period — when the USSR ratified the documents and the United States did not — is unacceptable, Medvedev stressed.
It is a parity thing, and both states are interested in it, he noted.
“Either we together ratify the prepared document that will be well considered and will reflect our ideas of strategic nuclear forces for the future, or the process will not take place,” the president said.
“I believe our American partners must know about it,” he added.
