A prominent Nigerian politician has described the U.S. as one of the worst terrorist countries on earth, saying the listing of Nigeria by the U.S., following the failed plane bomb attempt was not only rash but devoid of rational thinking.
Gabam said “the United States ought to have labelled itself as the worst terrorist in the world. Terrorism started from the U.S. because of their foreign policy. The shoe bomber is a UK citizen.”
“They are supposed to consider UK as a terrorist country. We have other countries where individuals have participated in terrorism and I see no reason why simply because of an individual, an isolated case, they declare Nigeria a terrorist interest country.
“It is absolutely unfair and that is why U.S. will continue to isolate itself so long as it continues with these rash policy without rational thinking and rational decisions being debated. It is unfortunate and we have rejected it in totality. The National Assembly has rejected it, the Federal Executive Council has rejected it, and we will continue to reject it.
“If they declare Nigeria as a terrorist country, they are terrorists as well, because they are also terrorising other countries. We reject it. Until they formalise this and respect the sovereignty of our country, our citizens would continue to disrespect them.
“There are other countries that we can have so many businesses, political interests with. We don’t have to go to U.S. My advice is that anybody who is going to U.S. should have a rethink.
“There is no need for you to go to a country where you will be humiliated like an animal. Nigerians should respect themselves and forget about any country that considers them as second class citizens.”
On plans by eminent Nigerians like former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka and other prominent Nigerians to lead a protest to the National Assembly to force the President, Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua to resign over his ill health, Gabam said that their action does not represent the interest of Nigerians.
“They have the right to protest, but they are just individuals. They are not the majority in terms of Nigerians’ decisions. Nigerians are in the majority. We accept their criticisms and observations, but they should also respect majority opinions. They don’t have any veto power to decide on behalf of millions of Nigerians or a monopoly of knowledge or wisdom. But they have the right to express their view,” he said.
