Liam Hanlon was part of a team cleaning up litter at Bidston Moss
The MANAGING director of a property restoration business has put his ‘boots on the ground’ alongside members of a local volunteer initiative, to clear litter from part of Wirral’s outdoor areas.
Liam Hanlon joined a 21-strong team on on Saturday, April 17, to help to clean up Bidston Moss, a designated local nature reserve since 1994.
Home to all forms of wildlife including butterflies and other insects, small birds and buzzards, as it lies near the M53 and A554, the approach area had instead become a habitat for litter.
In order for Bidston Moss to continue to provide a thriving woodland habitat for nature, as well as a haven for the local community, a clean-up of the waste was initiated.
A team of 21 people took part in the big clean up
Over 30 large sacks of single-use plastic waste was cleared from beneath the fly-over bridges, with the litter presumed to have been dropped or blown in from passing cars on these busy roads.
Speaking after taking part in the clean-up, Liam Hanlon, managing director at The Forshaw Group, said: “Well done to all the organisers and volunteers who helped to clean up the area.
“If everyone could commit just a small amount of their time to help clear their local spaces, just think how safe and smart our countryside, beaches, highways and byways would look. We will also continue to educate local communities and industries on what to do with their rubbish, so that hopefully one day we will be able to avoid these environmental issues.”
